Trentham Brass is a 4th section band based in Staffordshire, whose aim is to advance the education of its players and the public in the art of brass band music.
It is active in the local community with the presentation of concerts, recitals and contests under the direction of Mike Caveney. Most recently, the band received a letter from Whitmore Hall saying "Trentham Brass did exactly what I expected of a top brass band. Everyone at Whitmore Hall on Sunday was full of praise for the repertoire and the very high standard of performance."
The band's players consist of a wide range of ages and abilities, including one current member of the National Youth Brass Band.
In September 2010 the band competed in the Finals of the National Brass Band Championships, held in Harrogate, having qualified in the Midlands Regional Championships. The band were delighted to be placed 10th out of 21 bands. In February 2011 the band achieved FIRST PLACE at the NEMBBA contest held in Derby with John Golland's prelude, song and dance.
This term we said goodbye to some of our band members who started at University: Marcus and Emma, who leave the band to study music at the University of Huddersfield, Charlotte who leaves to study music at the University of Salford and Matt who is going to the University of Birmingham to study Maths. We wish them all the best, and look forward to seeing them in the holidays!
Also, congratulations to James who won the Young Composer's Competition organised by the City of Birmingham Brass Band. The competition was open to young composers aged 25 and under and two prizes were on offer, judged by Phil Harrison and Alwyn Green from the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra and Elly Tobin, Principal of Joseph Camberlain Sixth Form College, Birmingham. James won both of the prizes with his composition entitled, 'Voyage to the Horizons of Time.'
We have a number of our recent concerts and performances in our online photo gallery. You can filter by the locations of our latest photos either Stoke Minster Biddulph, Whit Friday, Trentham Gardens or everything from 2010
